Water Quality

Dry Weather: The open stretches of sand and ocean usually meet state health standards, with bacteria levels remaining safe for swimmers and surfers.

Wet Weather: Like most Southern California coastal areas, runoff can cause increased bacterial levels. Experts advise staying out of the water for 72 hours following any significant rainfall.

Storm Drains & Pier: Pollution hotspots and higher bacteria levels are common near outflow points like the Windward storm drain and the Venice Beach Pier. Swimmers are always advised to avoid water contact within 100 feet of flowing storm drains.
